Recently, the German wool Research Institute has successfully avoided the generation of AOX (Absorbable Organic Compounds in the chlorination process) in emissions by using plasma technology to treat wool sliver and fabric in gas state.
The anti felting effect of wool comes from the plasma oxidation effect on the surface. When the hydrophilicity of the fiber surface is enhanced, a water film will be formed during the washing process, which will separate the single fiber and reduce the friction. However, the high-energy particles produced by plasma treatment can bombard the fiber surface, which will damage the scale layer on the surface of the wool fiber and reduce the difference of the two-way friction coefficient, so as to achieve the purpose of anti felting.
The results of the German wool Research Institute have made great progress in the application of plasma technology in wool preshrinking. Plasma contains a lot of active particles, such as electrons, ions, metastable molecules and atoms, free radicals, photons and so on. These scientific research particles with enough energy can produce etching effect with wool surface and introduce polar groups containing oxygen and nitrogen. If the resin is dipped and rolled again, the resin will cover the fiber surface evenly, which will further weaken the directional friction effect of wool, so as to reduce the felt tendency of fabric more obviously.
With the increasing awareness of environmental protection, the traditional chlorine containing anti felting finishing method is limited and will be replaced by non chlorine finishing process. Plasma technology, non chlorine oxidation and enzyme treatment are the inevitable trend of wool anti felting finishing in the future.
