In 2018, Egypt's clothing export increased significantly
According to the data of the Egyptian Garment Export Committee, the value of Egyptian garment exports in the first quarter of 2018 reached 385 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 17 percent from the 330 million U.S. dollars in the same period of last year. In 2018, Egyptian clothing exports will continue to increase.
According to statistics, of the total exports in the first quarter of 2018, about 185 million U.S. dollars were sold to the United States, accounting for 48% of Egypt’s total clothing exports. Compared to the same period in 2017, the US$160 million increased by 16% year-on-year.
In January, February and March of 2018, Egyptian garment exports were US$129 million, US$133 million and US$123 million, respectively, compared with US$104 million, US$110 million and US$116 million respectively for the same period of 2017.
It is understood that the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) will stimulate Egyptian clothing exports to other African countries, including South Africa. Sherin Hosny, executive director of the Egyptian Garment Export Committee, predicts that in 2018, Egyptian garment exports will reach 1.8 billion U.S. dollars.
